More about us
We donate Since 2008
PROMISE stands for Promote Maternal & Infant Survival Excellence; it was developed by Dr. Linda Amarkai Vanotoo in 2008 out of a desire to identify the reasons for the high still births and maternal deaths recorded in the Western Region of Ghana where she worked as the Regional Director of Health Services. Since then PROMISE has grown to embrace the whole spectrum of continuum of care from the unborn child through childhood to adolescence and then adulthood.
Dr. Vanotoo also developed the PROMISE DRIVERS which are a set of twelve intervention areas which she believed would contribute to improvement in maternal, newborn child and adolescent health. The DRIVERS go beyond the three delays which have been documented as contributing significantly towards poor pregnancy outcomes including maternal deaths. The DRIVERS provide opportunity for District Health Directorates, Hospitals and other service delivery points to identify challenges confronting provision of maternal and newborn care and develop innovative approaches to address them. There is also opportunity to share best practices through the annual maternal and child conferences that have been running since 2009.
